UI Design

About

Writing Manor is an educational application on iPad combining with a smart pen that we designed for user needs of Chinese dysgraphia children who needs to practice writing while having fun in game. As writing tasks are interluded in the farming game,   kids get to practice writings through entertainments. With smart pen, kids can build with a pressure sensor which tracks the stress of pen-holding. The guiding holding area of the pen can also guide kids saving effort and avoids stiffness of finger muscle.

Our target user is Chinese dysgraphia children from 6 to 8 ages. As Chinese character is logographic languages formed by strokes and sub-components and demands strict spatial arrangement, it is complex to write. Different from English, writing in Chinese demands more on the direct visual matching route. For these users, we did much user researches to find their issues and know about their needs. User needs:Chinese dysgraphia children want to enjoy writing, and they need to be in touched and be cared by parents to overcome their psychological issues. They also need to improve writing efficiently.

书写庄园(Writing Manor)是iPad上的教育与游戏结合的应用程序,结合了我们设计的智能笔,专门针对需要在游戏中玩乐的同时练习书写的中国儿童。写作任务穿插进农场游戏中,使平时的练习不但有针对性也能获得乐趣。结合智能笔,孩子们就可以用一个压力传感器来追踪笔握的压力。笔的引导握持区域还可以使孩子有正确的写字姿势,并避免手指肌肉僵硬。

我们为中国的有书写问题/书写障碍的儿童(6-8岁)做了这个设计。由于汉字是由笔画和偏胖成分组成的逻辑语言,并且要求严格的空间排列,因此书写难度比英语高出很多。与英语不同,中文写作对视觉匹配的要求更高。对于写中文字的这些儿童,我们进行了大量用户研究,并发现了他们的问题和需求。用户需求:中国儿童希望在练习写字的时候又愉快的心情而不枯燥,提高练习的效率。此外,他们需要得到父母的关怀,以克服他们对于写字难的抵触心理问题和不自信。

Paint the outlier of a character which has been taught in given lecture at the beginning of daily task, it helps to enhance the child’s memory on the character.

用户需涂描斜线部分表示的字,这个字是他们每日任务开始时在给定讲座中学习过的,如此有助于增强孩子对该字的记忆。

User is asked to follow the hints to write character. The exercises will repeat at least twice daily to help kids exercise finger muscles and memory to the character.

要求用户按照提示笔画来写字。该练习每天至少重复两次,以帮助孩子锻炼手指肌肉和对该字的记忆。

User is asked to copy sentence which is whole sentence writing exercise in the game.

用户需抄写一句话来实现他们在农场生活的任务。抄写任务也将帮助他们很好的提高写字能力。

Child is asked to drag components to form characters, it helps child to have overall understanding to the character, and enhances memory to the components.

该任务要求孩子拖动文字组成部分以组成文字,拼音识别加文字组成这有助于孩子对该字有全面的认识,并增强对不同文字组成的记忆力。

​Child is asked to memorize character for 5 seconds observing, and is able to circle the wrong components of the wrong characters in the next screen. It will help to get stronger visual memory. 

要求孩子在5秒钟内记住正确的汉字,并能够在下一张图片中圈出错别字的错误组成部分。这将有助于孩子增强视觉记忆力。

It helps child to develop visual perceptual skills as kids are asked to identify an assigned Chinese characters in a busy background.

孩子被要求在密集型背景图案中识别指定的图案,它可以帮助孩子增强视觉感知能力;

Key Features

Challenges

1. We haven't finished the design in terms of programming part. And we hope to get it finished someday.
2. As going through hard time with Coronavirus period, it is hard for us to work face to face. All decisions are made from online meetings.
3. The design is still in English version as it is one of the projects we finished during MIDEA programme.

1.我们没有完成编程部分,该设计由此未能在appstore上架。希望有一天可以上架这款游戏来帮助中国的孩子们写字练习。
2.完成这个项目是在冠状病毒爆发时期,我们只得在网上工作,难以面对面交流。所有决定均由在线会议决定,但结果令我们都非常满意。
3.因为这个项目是我们的硕士毕业项目,这个设计到目前为止只有英文版本,中文版本还需进一步开发。
